In this paper the author presents an overview of the EU legal framework for promotion and support of female entrepreneurship, based on Small Business Act for Europe and Entrepreneurship 2020 Action Plan. These documents pay special attention to fostering and development of various specific forms of entrepreneurship, including entrepreneurship of young persons, migrants, seniors and women. The EU is taking steps to promote and encourage women’s entrepreneurship by creating favorable conditions for the development of entrepreneurship, in particular adequate funding.

The EU insists on connecting, networking and organizing women in entrepreneurship. Attention is particularly focused to mentors and business angels for women entrepreneurs. Finally, an important segment of these activities relates to awards and competitions in innovation, dissemination of knowledge and other projects aimed at entrepreneurship.

All the acts adopted by the EU in this area are also crucial for Serbia, which based its goals and plans on promoting women’s entrepreneurship on them. This promotion is particularly important in the National Strategy for Small and Medium Size Enterprises and the National Strategy for Gender Balance.
