“Women on the Flee – Women as Refugees” (Feminist Legacy in Legal Theory and Practice – Round Table IV)

University of Belgrade Faculty of Law organized from 30 June – 1 July 2022 as the LAWGEM Multiplier Event No.4 conference entitled “Feminist Legacy in Legal Theory and Practice”. The conference was focused on the topics of the Textbook Dragica Vujadinović, Mareike Fröhlich, Thomas Giegerich (eds), “Gender-competent legal education” (Springer Nature, Cham, 2022), which has been one of the main intellectual outputs of the LAWGEM project. The round tables however encompassed the wider context related to the most actual gender issues and with the participation of the prestigious key note speakers.

Round Table IV was entitled “Women on the Flee – Women as Refugees” and it was oriented towards the question does international law provide special protection to female refugees, as well as towards new input for an EU framework for refugee and asylum, which is gender based. Moderator of this Round Table was Prof. Dr. Bojana Čučković, while Prof. Dr. Tanasije Marinković spoke about “Human Rights Law – Gender Perspective”, with a special reference to recent European and international case-law on Islamic veils. Prof. Dr. Thomas Giegerich examined the issue of “International and EU Law and Gender Equality”, Dr. Rigmor Argren spoke about “International Humanitarian Law and Gender”, while Prof. Dr. Ivana Krstić held the lecture on “Women Refugees in International Law”. The topic of “Specific Laws for Domestic Violence and Stalking in Sweden” was examined by Prof. Dr. Susanne Strand; Assist. Prof. Ivana Marković spoke about “Genital Mutilation as a Form of Persecution”, while Assist. Prof. Natalija Lukić analyzed the issue of “Gender Perspective of Victimizaton, Crime and Penal Policy”. The field of Public Law was examined through lectures of Prof. Dr. Marko Davinić (“Gender Sensitive Asylum Procedure”) and Prof. Dr. Tanasije Marinković (“Gender Sensitive Constitutional Law”.
